Auburn University receives grant from Alabama Department of Environmental Management
AUBURN UNIVERSITY - Auburn University's Waste Reduction and Recycling Department (WRRD) has been awarded a $25,000 grant from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) to purchase recycling bins and other equipment that will create a more convenient recycling environment for the university community.
Christina Andress with ADEM's Materials Management Section stated, "Local recycling programs can have a positive impact on their communities and the State of Alabama."
Auburn University Provides Sustainable Public Space Recycling Opportunities
The Waste Reduction and Recycling Department (WRRD) is working to increase the university's efforts to be more sustainable. One way is to provide public space trash and recycling stations.
The BigBelly units use solar power and advanced communications technologies to maximize operational efficiencies. These stations provide more capacity for material due to on-site compaction. Each compactor replaces four existing trash containers.

Gameday Recycling Program Diverts More Than 40 Tons of Material
AUBURN UNIVERSITY - Auburn University Tiger fans recycled 40.6 tons of material during the 2013 football season. Fans recycled 81,200 pounds of material, a 56 percent increase over the previous season.
