Responsibly recycle electronics by following these steps:

1. Call Surplus Property to recycle electronics with property stickers and purchased with university funds.

2. Submit a work order to the Facilities Management Help Desk for the Waste Reduction and Recycling Department (WRRD) to pick up electronics, free of charge.

Acceptable Materials: computers│cell phones│cords│wires│DVDs│CDs│VHS│floppy disks hard drives│batteries│film│slide carousels│toner and ink cartridges

Community Members

Properly dispose of electronics, appliances, and confidential documents at an Electronics Recycling and Document Shredding Event hosted by the East Alabama Recycling Partnership and Keep Opelika Beautiful. Since 2009, event participants have recycled nearly 105 tons of electronics and over 34 tons of confidential documents.

Acceptable Materials

  • Electronics: computers, CPUs, laptops, monitors, cell phones, telephones/telephone systems, printers, copiers, fax machines, office equipment, banking/financial/medical equipment, electronic circuit boards, games, stereo equipment, PDAs, rechargeable batteries, televisions
  • Appliances: refrigerators, air conditioning units, stoves, washers, dryers, hot water heaters
  • Confidential Documents: mobile, on site shredding truck will accept up to 10 boxes of documents per vehicle
  • Food Bank of East Alabama: donations in the form of cash or nonperishable food items accepted 

The East Alabama Recycling Partnership (EARP) is represented by solid waste management professionals from Auburn University, Lee County, and the cities of Auburn and Opelika. The vision of the partnership is to establish a comprehensive and coordinated regional recycling program to divert materials from landfills. Sharing ideas and resources have enhanced the partner's recycling programs and provides a strong foundation for the future. EARP has received grants from the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) totaling nearly $1 million for equipment and materials.
