Dan King


A native of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dan graduated in 1980 from the U.S. Naval Academy with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.  Following graduation, he served 28 years as an officer in the Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps, rising to the rank of Captain.   As a Civil Engineer Corps Officer, he gained professional experience as a senior leader, manager, and engineer in charge of Navy facilities maintenance, construction contracting, and contingency construction operations, thus giving him extensive experience leading large, complex engineering services organizations.  He served as a Commanding Officer twice in his career, both at the Commander and Captain levels, the latter as Commanding Officer of a 2,500 person facility maintenance, engineering  and acquisition organization located in San Diego, CA  that served all Navy and Marine Corps bases in California, Nevada and Arizona.  His final tour in the Navy was at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland where he was the Public Works Officer.

Upon retirement from the Navy in December 2008, Dan joined the Auburn University staff as the Assistant Vice President for Facilities.  In this capacity, he is responsible for the planning, design and construction, facilities maintenance, utilities and building service operations that support the University. 

Dan has two Masters degrees: one in Civil Engineering (Construction Management) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a second one in Management Information Systems from George Washington University.  He also completed the Advanced Management Program at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. 

Dan is a registered professional engineer in the state of Maine.
